Unlike many store-bought treatments that contain heavy-duty chemicals like carbaryl (the active ingredient in Sevin Dust 5%), mosquito misting systems use pyrethrins or synthetic pyrethroids. These compounds are modeled after the natural insect defenses found in chrysanthemum flowers.

When used properly, these misting agents break down quickly in sunlight and do not persist on surfaces.
